Fabulous Reviews
of last year's Promenade on the Peninsula 5K Run/Walk
Now this was definitely a well-planned event! From the registration to the packet pick-up and most definitely the post race expo. I decided to run this 5k since it is close to home and it also benefits the YWCA of the South Bay/Harbor Area, an organization that I definitely support! The location was easy to find and parking was a breeze as it was right in the mall parking structure.
The start and finish was located at one end of the Promenade and the final portion of the course ran right through the mall with great views all along the course. There were water stations at every mile, large mile markers and enthusiastic volunteers calling out the times at each mile.
The post-race expo was definitely the best I've taken part of. My family and I were treated to pizza from Red Brick Pizza, salad & sandwiches from Marmalade Cafe, frozen yogurt from iBerries, as well as the traditional post-race fare such as bagels, bananas, oranges and lots and lots of water.
It didn't start on time but that seemed to be the only hiccup during this wonderfully planned event. What a great time for the whole family!

Now THIS is a 5k!!!
I participated in the Mary's Promenade on the Peninsula 5K Run/Walk this morning in Rolling Hills Estates, and this was by far the most enjoyable 5k event I have ever run. Runners in the area take note: this is a MUST-ATTEND if you like a great 5k!
I would definitely recommend this event. I was so impressed with the course, organization, volunteers, pre- and post-race fun, chip-timing, and the awesomely awesome swag bag! I signed up for this 5k after getting an Active Schwaggle offer (i.e., Groupon for athletic stuff) to register for this event for $12. How could I pass-up a chip-timed 5k in one of my favorite South Bay towns? I guess this is the second year this 5k has taken place; last year the course was made up of 3 1-mile loops, but this course was different, one big 5k circle, starting and finishing in the courtyard at the Promenade, a very nice outdoor mall. Getting to run through the outdoor mall was very cool, as was the chip timing, water stations at every mile, awesomely friendly volunteers, inspiring finish line music (the DJ was blasting "Eye of the Tiger" as we completed).
I loved the course because it was moderately challenging; lots of rolling hills and pretty canyon views. The food at the finish line was off the chain!!! I'm talking pizza, sodas, sub sandwiches, frozen yogurt, fresh fruit, water bottles, Marmalade cafe catering, and more!!! All free! Seriously the food at the finish line puts most post-race food I've experienced to shame.
And let's talk about the swag bag: in addition to a participant T-Shirt, the swag bag contained an Equinox thermos, a big bottle of sunscreen, two mini bottles of hand sanitizers, pens and pencils, Crabtree and Evelyn samples, a coupon for a free facial at Origins, a Luna bar, and a running shoe wallet. Excellent!
In sum, you're missing out if you don't sign up for the Mary's Promenade on the Peninsula 5k next year. This was a kickass 5k and I absolutely loved it! Great event!

The Promenade On the Peninsula 5k Run/walk is like a fine wine as it has only gotten better with age (even in its infancy at 2 years old). I cannot wait for this race to continue to grow/age!
